Akimoto, Sagetdao Victorious At ONE: REIGN OF DYNASTIES II

ONE: REIGN OF DYNASTIES II delivered thrilling action from start to finish, but it was the ONE Super Series main and co-main event bouts that brought non-stop striking action to the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Friday, 16 October.
In the main event, Hiroki Akimoto made his bantamweight debut against the division’s #3-ranked kickboxing contender “Muay Thai Boy” Zhang Chenglong, and despite being outsized, he wasn’t outmatched.
The Japanese ace often stood in the pocket with Zhang, exchanging blistering hooks and sweltering body kicks. Ultimately, he racked up enough points to steal the split decision win from “Muay Thai Boy.”
That victory may have put Akimoto in the top five rankings, but martial arts fans will have to wait and see how that plays out.
In the night’s co-main event, living legend Sagetdao “Deadly Star” Petpayathai had a successful comeback to “the art of eight limbs,” as he beat “Muay Thai Boy’s” older brother, “Bamboo Sword” Zhang Chunyu.
“Deadly Star” looked like he never missed a step despite being out of the sport for six years. From the get-go, he launched troubling left kicks at the body and head of Zhang, who did little to retaliate against the Thai.
When “Bamboo Sword” did pick up the action, Sagetdao picked him apart with punches from the outside. Inside the clinch, the Thai dominated there as well, working his positioning to allow for slicing elbows.
In the end, all three judges gave the nod to Sagetdao, who will no doubt use this momentum to make a run to the top of the featherweight division.
