Age is just a number as 10-year-old Axel Nocom is among the 22 sim racers from 15 countries competing in the 2022 E1 Championship season.

Representing Team eGG Network, the young Filipino teams up with Malaysia's Bernard Chan to challenge defending champions Team Flash, featuring a new all-Singaporean line-up of Jyn Mazvilton and Muhammad Thasbeeh, and nine other teams for a slice of USD$20,000 prize pool in Southeast Asia's premier sim racing competition.

Meanwhile, last year's championship-winning driver, India's Muhammad Ibrahim, now races for Mumbai Falcons alongside Moritz Lohner from Germany.

The Indian outfit, who won the 2022 Formula Regional Asia Championship with Arthur Leclerc, are among the new teams joining the action, which includes the esports division of F1 team Williams Racing represented by Jack Keithley and Martin Stefanko, to add more excitement to the competition.

"This season of E1 Championship has a stellar line-up of teams, including three real-life race teams – Black Arts Racing, Mumbai Falcons and Williams.

"It’s a testament as to how much sim racing has grown in Southeast Asia, and we are very excited for what the season holds in store for both drivers and viewers across the region," said Alex Yoong, E1 Championship Race Director and founder of Axle Sports.

Season Zero champion Naquib Azlan is also back for the latest edition, pairing up with brother Nabil under SEM9 after both finished fourth in the 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual earlier this year.

Another Malaysian participating in the competition is Mohammad Dzikri, who drives for APEX E-Racing's second team, PEX Racing Academy, alongside Germany's Julian Kunze.

The E1 Championship is operated by Axle Sports in partnership with eGG Network and sanctioned by the Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM), an affiliate of the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile).

The 2022 season flags off on September 7 on the Sepang International Circuit.
