Pemain profesional negara, Zulfadli Zulkiffli, muncul juara Grand Prix (GP) Terbuka Russia selepas menewaskan pemain India, Siril Verma, dalam perlawanan akhir di Vladivostok, hari ini.
Kejayaan tersebut adalah gelaran kedua buatnya dalam kejohanan berstatus GP selepas pemain berusia 23 tahun itu memenangi Terbuka Brazil, awal bulan lalu.
Bekas juara remaja dunia itu, bagaimanapun, terpaksa bekerja-keras sebelum bergelar juara apabila bertarung selama lebih satu jam dalam perlawanan tiga set.
Zulfadli, pemain kelahiran Los Angeles, Amerika Syarikat, tewas pada set pertama, 16-21. Pun begitu, dia memperkemaskan permainannya dan bangkit memenangi set kedua 21-19 untuk mengheret perlawanan ke set penentuan, sebelum menang set ketiga 21-10.
Dalam Terbuka Brazil, Zulfadli turut menewaskan pemain India, Anand Pawar, dalam perlawanan akhir tiga set, 18–21, 21–11, 21-17.
