Lee Zii Jia will forgo the German Open to represent Malaysia at the upcoming Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC, Feb 13-18) in Shah Alam as the shuttler looks to swiftly bounce back after exiting the Malaysia Open.
"We can confirm that Lee Zii Jia and Team LZJ with honour accept the invitation from Badminton Association of Malaysia to serve at the upcoming BATC.
"When healthy and able, Zii Jia will always heed the call of national duty. When the official call-up comes, some adjustments of prior programs will be facilitated including forgoing the German Open," read a statement from Team LZJ.
The men's singles shuttler is eager for redemption having lost at the Malaysia Open first round to China's Lu Guang Zu on Tuesday.
He did his best to stay positive in the aftermath of the loss, and looks to have taken the right move by accepting the offer to represent the country and give his best.
The BATC could prove the ideal tonic for the world number 11 to gain back some much needed confidence, especially since he played well in this event in 2022 to inspire Malaysia to the title.
In that inaugural edition, the national team beat Indonesia 3-0 in the final.
Lee will next travel to New Delhi to compete at the India Open next week.
