Lee Zii Jia admitted he was not satisfied with his performance at the Malaysia Masters men’s singles final after losing 6-21, 22-20, 13-21 against Viktor Axelsen at the Axiata Arena on Sunday.

The Malaysian had not been in the best physical shape coming into this final having played in his 10th match in two weeks on Sunday, but looked to have given his best effort against the top seed and world number one.
But the physical demands of this final took its toll on the Malaysian, who tried his best to push Axelsen throughout the 63-minute contest.

“It has been a great experience for me in these past two weeks playing against different types of players. I have learnt a lot. Hopefully I can take this experience into the coming events in the lead-up to the Olympics.

“But I am still not satisfied with my overall performance today, I could have been better. But I have to accept the result. Even if I was fully fit, I'm not sure if I could beat an experienced player like him.

“I am still finding the best version of myself. I am on track, but I have to keep improving,” he said.

Lee also added there has not been any decision for him to withdraw from the upcoming Singapore Open after a grueling two-weeks.

Overall the Malaysia Masters will be considered a success for the Malaysian contingent, who also saw Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai win the mixed doubles title.

Their success also meant there is finally a Malaysian winner since Lee Chong Wei who won the 2018 Malaysia Open title.
