Lee Zii Jia will start life as an independent shuttler with his own namesake badminton club with Indra Wijaya as his coach.

Youth and Sports Deputy Minister Ti Lian Ker announced the news on his social media, after confirming the formation of the Lee Zii Jia Badminton Club being approved by the Sports Commissioners office.

“The formation of the Lee Zii Jia Badminton Club will allow Indra Wijaya to take over as his coach after his contract ends on March 31. The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) are also ready to hand the Indonesian to help Lee in his career,” read the statement.

The world number seven had previously said he had a few candidates as his coach and an announcement would be made in due course.

Lee is set to see action on Wednesday at the ongoing Asia Team Championships when he faces Loh Kean Yew in the first men’s singles.

Both shuttlers last played each other at the Hylo Open final last year, which Lee had to withdraw through injury.
