The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) confirmed that Lee Zii Jia submitted an appeal letter against the national body's decision not to register him for tournaments for two years.

"The BAM can confirm that we have received an appeal letter from Lee Zii Jia today [Monday]. As the custodian of national badminton interest, we are looking into the matter with great urgency to find an amicable solution," read an official statement.

The BAM said they understand the public outcry to the decision to prohibit Lee and Goh Jin Wei from participating in tournaments but insisted there were rules to be adhered to.

"We are fully aware of the outpouring of anger and frustration, and we understand the disappointment expressed towards the Association. We appreciate all comments, criticisms and overall feedback directed at us.

"As a responsible national institution, we have an established set of processes and procedures that must be followed.

"The actions by the BAM council were based on these official procedures with the information that was presented to them. However, it is important to note that this decision is not without avenues of appeal," they added.

The Youth and Sports Ministry was also scheduled to meet both parties on the ongoing saga on Monday.
