Pemain perseorangan wanita negara, Ho Yen Mei, menyahut cabaran jurulatihnya, Sairul Amar Ayob, untuk memastikan dirinya berada dalam kelompok 50 terbaik dunia tahun ini meskipun sedar ia bukan tugas mudah.
Yen Mei, yang kini berada di kedudukan ke-58 dunia, tidak berasa tertekan dengan misi itu, sebaliknya lebih mementingkan prestasi berbanding ranking.
Dia berkata ranking terbaik akan terhasil jika meraih keputusan membanggakan dalam kejohanan kompetitif.
Sehubungan itu, Yen Mei akan mengambil iktibar daripada Kejohanan Grand Prix Malaysia Masters di Sibu tempoh hari apabila tewas dalam pusingan pertama berdepan Fitriani dari Indonesia.
"Saya hanya memberi lebih fokus terhadap kemajuan dan kelemahan saya. Jadi, saya lebih mengambil satu demi satu perkara. Saya hanya memikirkan persembahan berbanding ranking," katanya.
Dalam perkembangan lain, seorang lagi pemain, Lim Yin Fun, menyifatkan sambutan Tahun Baru Cina tahun ini lebih bermakna berbanding tahun lalu.
"Pada tahun lalu, saya hanya bercuti dua hari untuk Tahun Baru Cina kerana perlu membuat persediaan untuk Piala Uber. Bagaimanapun, pada tahun ini kami ada masa untuk bercuti, kira-kira lima atau enam hari," kata Yin Fun.
