Malaysia’s interest in the World Tour Finals (WTF) came to an end after Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi and Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing both crashed out in their semi-final matches on Saturday.

Most bitter of both the defeats were Ong-Teo to Mohammad Ahsan-Hendra Setiawan in a pulsating 17-21, 21-13, 19-21 encounter.

The Australian Open runners-up should be encouraged by their own combative display, but this will ultimately leave a bitter taste in their mouths after coming agonisingly close to the finish line but were pipped by the more Indonesians.

Tan-Lai, meanwhile, were no match for China’s Zheng Si Wei-Huang Ya Qiong, losing 10-21, 15-21 in a 27-minute contest.

Malaysia’s outing at this WTF left a lot to be desired, with only both these pairs reaching the knockout stage after six pairs flew into Bangkok as the country’s representatives.

World champions Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and French Open winners Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah were among the pairs who had an outing to forget after losing all their matches to finish bottom of their groups.
