Malaysia had to settle for two runner-up finishes at the World Tour Finals (WTF) after Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin both lost in their respective final matches in Hangzhou on Sunday.

In the men's doubles final, Goh-Izzuddin were beaten 17-21, 21-17, 11-21 by Denmark pair Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen.

The world number seven Malaysians, perhaps tired after their marathon semi-finals victory, were outplayed by the Danes in the third game.

It still has been a fantastic season for Goh-Izzuddin, who reached their fifth final of the year.

In an earlier match, Chen-Toh went down fighting 18-21, 21-14, 17-21 against home pair Zheng-Huang in the mixed doubles final.

The Malaysians put on a gutsy display against the world number three pair in a high-octane contest that went on for 75-minutes at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre.

The victory also meant Zheng will hang up his racquet with yet another silverware in this competition, having won this competition four times with Huang.

Chen-Toh had a great opportunity to clinch their biggest career title against this Paris Olympics champions who have not played together in four months, but they squandered the opportunity after rushing their shots in the closing stages of the first and third game.

Still, it spelled progress from Chen-Toh who already made history by becoming the Malaysian first mixed doubles pair to reach the final of this season-ending event.

The WTF brings an end to the 2024 World Tour season.

The 2025 season will kick off with the Malaysia Open from January 7-12.
