World Championships: Tang Jie-Ee Wei continue strong debut run to reach quarter-finals
It was a great day for the Malaysian contingent at the BWF World Championships, as Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and Pearly Tan-M.Thinaah sailed into the quarter-finals with impressive wins.
Chen-Toh got the ball rolling for the country with a priceless 20-22, 21-19, 21-12 victory over seventh seeds Thom Gicquel-Delphine Delrue to book a last-eight berth in their first world meet outing as a pair.
The first two games were as close as it could get, with the French pair edging the opener before the Malaysians fought hard to level matters.

The deciding match swung in the favour of Chen-Toh midway through after Gicquel-Delrue started making unforced errors, and they made sure to capitalize by swiftly racing to the finishing line for the win.
The Taipei Open champions go on to face Japan’s second seeds Yuta Watanabe-Arisa Higashino on Friday.
Similarly, national men’s and women’s doubles shuttlers Chia-Soh and Tan-Thinaah posted impressive victories to stride on in this competition held in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Tan-Thinaah beat Mayu Matsumoto-Wakana Nagahara 21-14, 22-20 to chalk up another success over this Japanese pair, whom they outclassed to clinch the French Open title last year.
The world number 11 pair should fancy their chances when they take on China’s Zhang Shu Xian-Zheng Yu next.
Defending men’s doubles winners Chia-Soh did the same to dump out reigning Olympic champions Lee Yang-Wang Chi-lin 21-16, 21-18 in a 43-minute contest.
The world champions proved too crafty and lethal for their opponents who came into this tournament in good form having recently won the Japan Open.
Chia-Soh are up against China’s Liu Yu Chen-Ou Xuan Yi for a place in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, three other doubles pairs – Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun, Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi and Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai – saw their campaigns come to an end at the Royal Arena on Thursday.
