Malaysia doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky feels that Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah can go far at the upcoming BWF World Championships if they have desire to win.

The world number 11 pair had gone about their business quietly to prepare for the tournament, which begins on Monday.

Having received a first-roudn bye, they will take on either a Scottish or Australian pair, a hurdle which they should clear with relative ease.

Their first big test will likely come in the form of Chinese pair Zhang Shu Xian-Zheng Yu in the third round, who beat the Malaysians in all three meetings.

“You can’t just say I want to win, but do not believe it. As for Pearly-Thinaah, they must be ambitious and also be consistent to go far in Denmark. They have been quiet in training, which means they are focused.

“They need to maintain their focus. At the Korea Open, they had a big lead against Chen Qing Chen-Jia Yi Fan, but after conceding four or five points, lost their focus and the game.

“If they rediscover the same fighting spirit they showed at the Malaysia Masters, they can go far,” said Rexy.

Besides Tan-Thinaah, the other women’s pairs in action are Anna Ching-Teoh Mei Xing and Vivian Hoo-Lim Chiew Sien.
