World Championships: Jin Wei to spar with Tien-chen ahead of potential Se-young clash
Goh Jin Wei will have the services of world number 10 Chou Tien-chen as her sparring partner with the Malaysia women’s singles shuttler ramping up preparations to potentially face An Se-young at the upcoming BWF World Championships.
The Chinese Taipei men’s singles ace is among a slew of shuttlers who will spar with Goh ahead of the world meet taking place in Copenhagen from August 21-27.
Goh’s handler Nova Armada noted that sparring with different players would mould the former two-time former world junior champion to become more adaptable.

“Tien-chen is with us for 10 days. I also have players from Europe including from Austria, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland and Hungary. It’s a good platform for Jin Wei to have quality sparring and adapt to a variety style of play.
“We are trying to raise Jin Wei’s stamina. She can last for two games but runs out of gas in three. We hope by end of this year, this will no longer be a problem,” Nova told The Star.
The Penang-born will need all the help she can get as she prepares for a likely second-round meeting against world number one An.
Goh is expected to easily overcome her Hungarian opponent in the first round for the showdown against the seven-time champion on the World Tour circuit this year.
However, even taking a game off An is expected to be a mammoth task for Goh, who continuously exited in the first round of tournaments this year.
“Our goal is to help Jin Wei go through the first round and be ready to give a worthy fight against Se-young,” added Nova, aiming to build the 23-year-old beyond the world meet.
S. Kisona is the other Malaysia women's singles shuttler to compete in Copenhagen, having a first-round tie against Pai Yu-po.
