World Championships: Emotional Mei Xing describes playing with Anna again as 'miracle'
An emotional Teoh Mei Xing struggled to hold back tears for being able to play with Anna Cheong again as the pair returned to winning ways at the ongoing World Championships.
The Malaysia women's doubles pair needed only 38 minutes to send American twins Annie Xu-Kerry Xu packing from the tournament held in Denmark and moved into round two.
Teoh-Cheong's victory was a result of painstaking hardwork, patience and resolve as Cheong finally made a return after almost a year out due to an anterior ruciate ligament injury suffered last October.
Teoh was overwhelmed with her partner’s return.
“It’s a miracle, I am touched. She’s worked really hard to make a return. When I saw how hard she worked, I did not want to give up. I worked hard myself, so when she returns, I can cover for her if needed,” said an emotional Teoh.
The Malaysians were solid in their 21-14, 21-18 win, but they are up against much more formidable opponents in eighth seeds Jongkolphan Kititharakul-Rawinda Prajonglai next.
Teoh-Cheong are among nine Malaysian representatives in action on Wednesday at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen.
They include Lee Zii Jia, Ng Tze Yong, Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing, Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei, Pearly Tan-M.Thinaah, Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi, Vivian Hoo-Lim Chiew Sien and defending men’s doubles champions Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik.
Some of the interesting ties pit Lee against Canada's Brian Yang and see Ng having a tougher assignment against home boy Anders Antonsen.
Some of the other pairs who won on Tuesday including Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai and Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun will see action on Thursday.
