US Open champions Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin vowed to remain grounded as they continue to build on their newly renewed partnership at the upcoming Korea Open.

The Malaysians put on a clinic with their racquets to win the Super 300 event in dominant fashion and restore faith in their partnership, which looked to have ended earlier this year.

However, despite returning to winning ways, the pair insisted more needed to be done.

“The chemistry is there, but there are lots of things we still need to improve in this partnership. This is a process. Today we are champions, but tomorrow we start again from zero. We’ll now focus on our next tournament,” the pair said.

Both shuttlers will no doubt be on cloud nine as they make the long haul flight from America to Yeosu to compete in Korea.

They will need to battle considerable jet lag before they face Chinese pair Ren Xiang Yu-Tan Qiang in the opening round.

There will be plenty of motivation for three other national pairs who are due action in the Super 500 event.

At the National Sports Awards 2022 on Monday, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik won the National Sportsman Award for their World Championships feat last year, while Pearly Tan-M.Thinaah claimed the National Women’s Team trophy.

It will be an added impetus for Chia-Soh who continue to seek for a maiden World Tour title, and they will continue to do so in Korea beginning with an opening round tie against a qualifier.

Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun should also bring the confidence of winning the Taipei Open when they face a tough opening match against home pair Kang Min-hyuk-Seo Seung-jae.

Lee Zii Jia is one of the main focus for the Malaysian representation, as he prepares to do battle with a new coach in tow.

Wong Tat Meng knows about Lee’s opponent Angus Ng Ka Long all too well, having coached the Hong Kong national team before switching sides, and so clearing the first-round hurdle will be crucial for the independent shuttler.

Malaysia also has a defending champion in this event in mixed doubles pair Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing, who are struggling to rediscover the same form that saw them win last year.
