Anthony Ginting and Ng Tze Yong were among those who paid tribute to Indonesian shuttler Syabda Perkasa Belawa, who tragically passed away in a road accident on Monday.

The tragedy, which also claimed the life of his mother, happened when the 21-year-old was on his way with his family to attend his grandmother’s funeral.

The vehicle driven by Syabda’s dad, believed to be over the speed limit, lost control before hitting a truck.

Both Syabda and his mom perished at the accident site, while his father and two sisters suffered injuries.

Viktor Axelsen also expressed his condolences, while Syabda’s national team-mate Anthony Ginting said “Gone too soon, Rest In Love Syabda”.

Badminton commentator Gillian Clark posted a heartfelt tribute by saying : “I am deeply shocked and saddened by this tragic news. I remember watching him at the 2022 Thomas Cup in Bangkok and being impressed by his obvious talent.”

During his short-lived career, Syabda helped Indonesia to win silver at last year’s Thomas Cup.

He was also crowned world junior champion in 2019, and had three titles to his name in the lower tier events.

He won two titles in 2022 including becoming champion at the Malaysia International.

This year, he also won the Iran International after defeating Malaysia’s Justin Hoh in the final.
