Cheah Liek Hou concluded his Tokyo Paralympics Group B campaign as champion after sealing a perfect record, courtesy of a 21-19, 21-12 victory over Japan’s Taiyo Imai on Friday.

The men’s singles Standing Upper 5 (SU5) shuttler will now wait for his semi-final opponent that would be determined by the outcome in Group A.

The world number two had been in imperious form in this competition, disposing of his first two opponents with relative ease in the past two days.

Against the Taiyo, Cheah looked in cruise control in the first game, but allowed the Japanese back in to level at 19-19.

The six-time SU5 singles world champion eventually saw out the first game to win 21-19 and went on to seal the second game in more convincing fashion.

“I was too eager to win the first game, which gave him a chance to make a comeback. It’s great that I am in the semis, but I don’t want to think about a medal just yet. I need to focus on the semi-final first,” he said.

Cheah is scheduled to play in the semis on Saturday morning and compete for either bronze or gold in the evening session.
