Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei have made history by becoming Malaysia's new mixed doubles world champions after a sensational victory on Sunday.

The world number four pair demolished China's Jiang Zhen Bang-Wei Ya Xin 21-15, 21-14 in a one-sided victory that gave the country a perfect 68th Merdeka Day gift.

Chen-Toh came into this match having won only once in four meetings against their world number two opponents, but the script in this final was about to different.

From the first serve, Chen-Toh looked much faster, sharper and more determined to win this match compared to their opponents who were riddled with nerves.

Chen smashed every shuttle that came his way, combining that aggression with some cleverly disguised drop shots from baseline.

Toh was sharp and decisive on the front court, and as a result the Malaysians secured victory in only 40-minutes, with both shuttlers running to celebrate with coaches Nova Widianto and Rexy Mainaky.

After that, Toh also ran to get a Malaysian flag from the crowd.

This victory also means Chen-Toh made history by becoming Malaysia's first mixed doubles world champions.
Before this, Malaysia had a bronze medal in the mixed doubles world champs through Koo Kien Kiat-Wong Pei Tty in 2006.
