Taipei Open: Joo Ven to face top seed Tien-chen in semis
Soong Joo Ven put on another impressive display by disposing of third seed P. Kashyap to check into the Taipei Open men's singles semi-finals.
Soong endured nail-biting moments in the deciding match against his Indian opponent, but crucially prevailed 21-12, 12-21, 21-17 in 55 minutes.
This is Soong's second semi-finals appearance this season, having also made the last four of the Korea Masters in April.
The world number 59 faces top seed Chou Tien-chen for a place in the final.
Several other Malaysians also made it to the semis on Friday.
Syed Modi International champions Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun are on course for a second title of the season after the sixth seeds overcame home pair Liao Min Chun-Chun Hsien Yang 21-14, 21-19.
Independent pair Boon Xin Yuan-Wong Tien Ci made it double delight in the men's doubles after fighting tooth and nail for a 21-12, 11-21, 22-20 over Hong Kong pair Law Cheuk Him-Reginald Lee.
Their reward is a showdown against top seeds and reigning Olympic champions Lee Yang-Wang Chi-lin.
In the mixed doubles, new pairing Hoo Pang Ron-Toh Ee Wei beat Indian pair Ishaan Bhatnagar-Tanisha Crasto 21-19, 21-12 and next face Reginal Lee-Ng Tsz Yau in the semis.
Goh Jin Wei's run, meanwhile, came to an end following a 9-21, 21-12, 16-21 loss against Japan's Saena Kawakami.
