National men’s doubles shuttler Goh Sze Fei chose to look on the positives after he and partner Nur Izzuddin finished second at the Badminton Asia Championships final on Sunday.

Goh-Izzuddin lost 17-21, 21-15, 10-21 against China’s top pair Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang to ensure a third consecutive silver medal for Malaysia in the men’s doubles category of this competition.

Despite failing to finish at the podium top, the world number 19 outdid themselves by defeating reigning world champions Kang Min-hyuk-Seo Seung-jae, Olympic champions Lee Yang-Wang Chi-lin and national team-mates Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik to reach the final.

Goh chose to look at the positives of the pair’s gallant run in Chengdu, China.

“This tournament has been a challenging yet rewarding experience, pushing us to give our absolute best on court. Each match has taught us valuable lessons and has fueled our determination to keep striving for excellence.

“This is just a stepping stone in our quest for greatness, and we’ll come back stronger and more determined than ever,” Goh posted on his official social media account.

Reaching this final also proved the pair have come a long way since they were split up a year ago, following a stagnated performance.

The split, however, only lasted two months as they were reunited and went on to win the US Open, Kaohsiung and Abu Dhabi Masters title after that.

Goh-Izzuddin's run to this final also marked the continued progress for the Malaysian doubles' contingent on the World Tour stage.

Chia-Soh finished second at the All-England in March, before Choong Hon Jian-Haikal Nazri went on to win the Orleans Masters title later that month.

After that mixed doubles pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai claimed the Swiss Open title, before Junaidi Arif-Yap Roy King finished second at the Spain Masters.
