National men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin made a big jump on the world rankings list to 15 following their gallant run to the final of the recently concluded Badminton Asia Championships (BAC).
The Malaysians defeated two top five pairs including world champions Kang Min-hyuk-Seo Seung-jae and Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, while also eliminating Olympic champion Lee Yang-Wang Chi-lin who are in the top 10.
They couldn’t beat world number one and home favourite Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang in the BAC final, but did themselves a world of good by collecting 10,200 points as a result of finishing second.
As a result, they jumped four spots into the top 15 and with renewed confidence to match some of the top pairs in the world.
Men’s singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia, meanwhile, found himself back in the top 10 after he made the BAC last eight.
Other Malaysian shuttlers in the top 10 are Chia-Soh (5) and national mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei (9).
