It was almost a perfect second round for the national contingent at the Swiss Open, who all progressed to the last eight of the Super 300 event with the exception of men’s doubles shuttlers Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong who lost.

The third seeds were not only overwhelming favourites to beat Germans Mark Lamsfuss-Marvin Seidel but also expected to go the distance in the absence of some of the world’s top pairs.

But as fate would have it, Goh-Tan lost in straight sets 19-21, 19-21 to exit the tournament, derailing the world number 11 pair in their quest to reach their true potential before the Tokyo Olympics.

That setback apart, the rest all progressed fairly comfortably, with most winning their matches in straight games.
