Men’s doubles world champion Aaron Chia had a key message for Malaysians: “Always be on high alert for scammers!”

The shuttler, along with other badminton icons including partner Soh Wooi Yik, Lee Zii Jia, Goh Liu Ying and Lee Chong Wei, were appointed anti-scam ambassadors by the Royal Malaysia Police & Commercial Crime Investigation Department this week.

“Scammers are getting more sophisticated with their tactics, especially in this digitalized world. Remember to always stay alert and beware of any new tactics! Do not share your personal information to any strangers,” said Chia via his social media on Wednesday.

Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah said the shuttlers were chosen as key opinion leaders due to their huge appeal and following to reach the masses.

This year alone, there were 140 scam cases from January to August where victims suffered over RM482 million in losses.

The shuttlers were not only the high profile ambassadors appointed for this Anti-Scam campaign.

Other personalities included rock star Awie, actress Diana Danielle and artiste Hazama Azmi.

Meanwhile, on a personal front, Chia will also be gearing up for a massive day when he ties the knot with partner Mei Qi on September 16.
