With the picturesque white sandy beaches and crystal blue waters as backdrop, Malaysian mixed doubles shuttler Goh Soon Huat proposed to Shevon Lai in Maldives on Tuesday, his partner on court and now life partner.

A clearly delighted Lai shared the news on her social media, full of admiration for her fiancé who had been planning the perfect proposal for some time.

“You have been planning this for almost a year, finding the perfect place, ring, timing moment. From learning about diamonds to arranging the entire proposal trip, you had to do it all on your own and keep it away from me.

“I am indeed one blessed girl. You have made the most beautiful proposal I can ever dream of, come true. To the next chapter of our lives,” she said.

The couple announced their relationship while on badminton duty in the island of Bali last year.

Fueled by this great news, the world number eight pair will next turn their attention to a hectic 2023 season that begins with the Malaysia Open (January 10-15).

Goh-Lai open their campaign against Chinese Taipei pair Chang Ko-chi-Lee Chih-chen.

Hoo Pang Ron-Teoh Mei Xing, Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying, Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei, Tan Kian Meng-Lai Peng are the other Malaysians in action in the mixed doubles.
