Kejayaan pemain perseorangan lelaki menawan gelaran siri jelajah badminton dunia membuat skuad wanita tercabar untuk membuktikan mereka juga mampu menamatkan kemarau kejuaraan.
Kebangkitan yang dipamerkan Lee Zii Jia dan Cheam June Wei menjadi satu cabaran kepada pemain-pemain wanita.
Kali terakhir skuad wanita mencipta impak ialah menerusi Datin Wong Mew Choo yang menggenggam mahkota Terbuka China pada 2007 selepas menewaskan tiga pemain terbaik dunia dimiliki tuan rumah.
Langkah segera buat mengejar sasaran itu ialah misi menempatkan diri dalam kelompok 20 terbaik dan menjamin tempat automatik ke siri Jelajah Dunia BWF.
Resipi itu dimiliki Jepun yang kini memonopoli saingan tertinggi dengan lima perseorangan elit dalam kedudukan ranking berkenaan.
"Saingan sangat kompetitif dalam perseorangan wanita. Kualiti permainan semakin meningkat dan barisan pemain yang berada di kedudukan lebih bawah turut mampu menampilkan saingan," kata pemain perseorangan wanita, Soniia Cheah.
