The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) announced on Monday that several national shuttlers returning from the recent Spanish International tested positive for COVID-19.

No names were revealed but the BAM confirmed there were six positive cases among the 20 Malaysian players participating in the BWF International Challenge event in June.

The national badminton body confirmed the involved shuttlers had observed compulsory quarantine since their return to the country and those tested positive were sent to the quarantine centre despite being asymptomatic.

They also did not come in contact with the national players preparing for the Tokyo Olympics.

The latest news put a slight damper on the national contingent's excellent outing in Spain as S. Kisona (women's singles), Tee Kai Mun (men's and mixed doubles), Man Wei Chong (men's doubles) and Teoh Mei Xing (mixed doubles) emerged victorious.
