Ng Tze Yong conjured up one of his biggest victories of the year after he stunned Angus Ng Ka Long, a finalist at last week’s Malaysia Masters, in straight games in the Singapore Open opening round on Wednesday.
The Malaysian shuttler’s 21-16, 21-17 victory over the Hong Kong ace, who was on a good run after reaching the final on Sunday and hovered just outside the world top 10 at 13th, should give him a nice confidence boost.

At the Malaysia tournaments, Tze Yong faced higher ranked shuttlers such as Lu Guang Zu and Chou Tien-chen but lost.
The 44-minute victory over Angus pits him against another Hong Kong shuttler in Lee Cheuk Yiu in the second round.
