Singapore Open: Aaron-Wooi Yik, Tang Jie-Ee Wei march on into semis

Malaysia have two pairs in the Singapore Open semi-finals after Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei both came through in nail-biting fashion on Friday.

Chia-Soh had to keep nerves intact to come through with a 18-21, 21-16, 22-20 victory against Leo Rolly Carnando-Daniel Marthin, thus avenging sweet revenge against the Indonesians who knocked them out on home soil two weeks ago.

The world number four pair nearly let the win slip as they lost their 20-17 match point opportunities in the decider to allow Carnando-Marthin back into the game, but an unforced error from the Indonesians paved the way for the priceless win.

After the match, Chia lamented the pair's carelessness to pave the way for their opponents to take it to the wire.

Chia-Soh take on Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang for a place in the final tomorrow.

Like them, mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei also left it late, crucially coming through to see off Hong Kong's Reginald Lee-Ng Tsz Yau 21-14, 16-21, 21-18 after 58 minutes.

The Orleans Masters winners had been pushing hard to cement their rank among the world's top 20 best pairs, and this performance was another indication they might do that soon enough.

Chen-Toh, however, have their work cut out for them with a meeting against world number three pair Yuta Watanabe-Arisa Higashino in the semis.

Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi nearly made it three pairs into the last four for Malaysia, but a failure to convert two match points in the second game led to an excruciating 22-20, 24-26, 22-24 defeat to South Korea's Choi Sol-gyu-Kim Won-ho.
