Malaysia's participation at the Singapore Open ended in the semi-finals following losses to Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei and Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik on Saturday.

Chen-Toh were first up and found world number three pair Yuta Watanabe-Arisa Higashino too hot to handle, even though it didn't stop them pushing the second seeds close in both games in the 17-21, 22-24 defeat.

Chia-Soh came even closer, pushing Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang to three close games before they lost.

The Malaysians even took the lead by winning the first game 21-16, but their in-form Chinese opponents battled back to win the next two games 15-21, 17-22.

It was a painful defeat for Chia-Soh, who also lost to the same opponents in the India Open final earlier this year.

Their losses also meant Malaysia only had one BWF World Tour title to show for this year, earned through Chen-Toh at the Orleans Masters in April.

Malaysia's next chance of trying to win another title will be at next week's Indonesia Open.
