Ahead of her return to national training, mixed doubles specialist Shevon Lai was dealt a blow as she was diagnosed with dengue fever.

“I am feeling better now. Still having fever, but definitely getting better. Looking forward to a speedy recovery to get back soon. Thank you all for the well wishes, though I could not reply each individually,” said Lai, who is currently hospitalised.

Lai would have plenty of time to recover and return to training, with the professional circuit not scheduled to begin in August.

Currently ranked 11th in the Road To Tokyo qualification, the Selangor-born shuttler and partner Goh Soon Huat are very much in contention to feature at next year’s Tokyo Olympics.

National shuttlers poised to make the Olympics cut were given the green light to return to training on June 1st following a lengthy Movement Control Order (MCO) imposed to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, the Badminton World Federation already confirmed the second phase of Olympic qualification would only take place from January 4th to May 2nd to ensure travel restrictions of the coronavirus.
