SEA Games: Roy King-Su Yin book final berth against Indonesian top seeds
Yap Roy King-Cheng Su Yin ensured the national contingent is on course to defend its SEA Games mixed gold medal after overcoming their Thai opponents to reach the final in Cambodia.
In a game of long rallies, furious attacking display and unforced errors, Yap-Cheng battled for 72 minutes before they beat Pakkapon Teeraratsakul-Phataimas Muenwong 24-22, 25-27, 21-19.
The Malaysians now contend for the gold medal against Indonesia’s top seeds Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto-Lisa Ayu Kusumawati on Tuesday.

While the mixed doubles pair did well to hold their nerves to book the final, the other four Malaysian representatives had to settle for bronze.
In the women's doubles semi-finals, top seeds Febriana Dwipuji-Amalia Cahaya overcame Lee Xin Jie-Low Yeen Yuan 21-9, 21-9, while second seeds Meilysa Trias Puspitasari-Rachel Allessya defeated Cheng Su Hui-Cheng Su Yin 21-10, 21-17.
It was the same case in the men’s singles, as the Malaysians lost to Indonesian top seeds.
Lee Shun Yang was beaten 15-21, 18-21 by Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo, while Leong Jun Hao lost 19-21, 12-21 to Christian Adinata.
Should Yap-Cheng win on Tuesday, they will emulate the feat of Chen Tang Jie-Peck Yen Wei in last year’s rescheduled SEA Games.
In every edition since 2013, Malaysia delivered at least one gold medal in the individual event.
