The Malaysian badminton contingent continued to impress at the SEA Games as several national shuttlers confirmed their semi-finals berths in four individual disciplines to stay in hunt for a multiple gold medal quest.

Mixed doubles pair Yap Roy King-Cheng Su Yin started the day off by whipping Cambodia’s Vannthoun Vath-Lim Kimloung 21-5, 21-3 to set up a meeting with Thai pair PakkaponTeeraratsakul-Phataimas Muenwong.

Leong Jun Hao swiftly followed with a win of his own as he ousted Jewel Angelo 21-14, 23-21 in 46 minutes.

The 23-year-old should be confident of his chances against Indonesia’s Christian Adinata in the last four, while Lee Shun Yang, who also came through, is set to take on another Indonesian Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo.

Su Yin will be on double duty on Monday with her sister Cheng Su Hui for a showdown against Indonesia’s Meilysa Trias-Rachel Allessya in the women's doubles.

Another Malaysian pair Lee Xin Jie-Low Yeen Yuan recovered from a game down to muster a valiant 13-21, 21-19, 21-19 victory over Thailand’s Chasinee Korepap-Pitchamon Opatniputih.

Their reward is a match-up against top seeds Febriana Dwipuji-Amalia Cahaya.

It was not a perfect day though as Choong Hon Jian-Yap Ling and Chia Weijie-Liew Xun lost their matches in the mixed and men’s doubles.

In every edition since 2013, Malaysia delivered at least one gold medal in the individual event.

Last year’s rescheduled SEA Games saw mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Peck Yen Wei win gold.
