Malaysia doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky ramped up training sessions to three daily, including a video analysis session to help national shuttlers get back on track after a dismal BWF World Tour outing in Europe.

The new intensified training regime was catered for the Road To Gold (RTG) shuttlers, most likely comprising of Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik as well as Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah.

“As of now we are doing three sessions for the RTG programme. From Monday to Thursday the players are on court two hours in the morning, followed by a physical session in the afternoon.

“Then around 3pm there is a video analysis session with them. This is to show the players what they can improve on. Sometimes just verbalising to them may not be enough, we hope they can understand better through this analysis,” said Rexy.

The Indonesian was nonetheless happy with the response from the shuttlers, especially Chia after their forgettable European outing.

“Aaron wants more, he wants to come in early and work. It’s not given us time to breathe but it’s good to see these changes in training,” he said.

Chia himself admitted the world number two were far from their best after only winning one match in total at the German Open, All England and Swiss Open.

“We weren’t good in Europe and there’s no excuse for that. But we hope this loss will wake us up before the Olympic qualification that begins in May.

“We know we can’t win every tournament, but we have to be consistent. Right now we need to solve the issue of why we cannot be consistent. We aren’t sure ourselves, but it is not about us not being fit enough or tired,” he said.

Chia-Soh will next compete at the Badminton Asia Championships in Dubai later this month (April 25-30).

The world champions reached the final of last year’s meet but lost in the final to Indonesia's Pramudya Kusumawardana-Yeremia Rambitan.
