Peter-Gade vows to go hard on Axelsen

Former Danish ace Peter Gade Christensen, who is one of Viktor Axelsen’s coaches, has promised he will not go easy on his star student who has won every individual major title the game has to offer.

Gade was roped by the two-time Olympic champion in November last year to help him in the later stages of his career.

Axelsen also still trains under his father-in-law Henrik P.K. Rohde.

During The Legends’ Vision World Tour China last weekend, Gade was asked about working with Axelsen.

“It is a huge honor and privilege if I can add something to Viktor's game in the last stage of his career. He has already won everything, so it won’t be an easy task.

“If he doesn't listen, we have an agreement that I can be hard on him and I’m sure I will get his attention,” said Gade.

Joking as he may be, it is all serious business on court as Axelsen is known to be a perfectionist and has constantly looked for ways to refine his game in a competitive men’s singles landscape.

Besides his two Olympic gold medals, the 31-year-old has two World Championships gold medals and even the Thomas Cup trophy to his name.

Axelsen had also helped Gade in the last part of his career when he trained with the 48-year-old as a fresh-faced shuttler.

Axelsen is currently in a series of rehabilitation after undergoing a back surgery in March.
