Nur Izzuddin was left to rue a lapse in the crucial stage which cost him and Goh Sze Fei a place in the Macau Open final.

The men’s doubles pair crashed out 16-21, 20-22 against China top seeds Li Jun Hui-Liu Yu Chen.

"We should have been more patient. We were too eager to go for the kill but ended up committing unnecessary errors.

"Overall we gave them a good fight, be it speed, skill or power. I thought we were able to match them. The difference is that they made less mistakes," Izzuddin told The Star.

The defeat was painful for the world no. 28 pair, who twice came back in the second game to force deuce against last year’s world champions.

It was double heartbreak as mixed doubles pair Hoo Pang Ron-Cheah Yee See also fell 12-21, 21-15, 20-22 to Chinese Taipei’s Wang Chi-lin-Cheng Chi Ya in the last four.

The pairs defeats' meant the Malaysian contingent are left waiting for a BWF World Tour title since Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong won the Chinese Taipei Open men’s doubles in September.

Nur-Goh next compete at the Fuzhou China Open which begins on Tuesday, where they face South Korean’s Ko Sung-hyun-Shin Baek Cheol in the opening round.

After that, it’s on to the Hong Kong Open (November 12-17) to take on Dutch pair Jelle Mas-Robin Tabeling in the first round.

The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) are pining on their shuttlers to come good in China and Hong Kong as the 2019 badminton season comes to a close.

The national body already said they are prepared to make drastic changes and remove underperforming players, and would have to come good on their word should this slide continue.
