Myisha Khairul capped a momentous outing at the Dutch International by capturing her first senior title after the 19-year-old beat team-mate Siti Nurshuhaini 21-19, 18-21, 21-19 to win the women’s singles title on Saturday.

The victory certainly announced Myisha’s arrival on the national scene, after the teenager came through the qualifiers to go all the way in this tournament.

In total, Myisha navigated her way through seven matches from the qualifiers and took down some much bigger names in the process, including Denmark’s second seeded Amalie Schulz whom she beat in the second round.

Her heroics in the Netherlands came on the back of her inclusion for the Uber Cup campaign, where she would be in contention to play some part in the team event.

Myisha was a product of the Bukit Jalil Sports School Talent Identification program, having come through after excelling at several youth tournaments that caught the attention of the Johor Badminton Association.

This year, she also helped the women’s team win bronze at the Asia Team Championships back in February.
