Two-time world champion Kento Momota has hinted he is ready to settle down in life, and would ideally like to find a wife who doesn’t know about him.

“My ideal woman would be someone who isn’t interested in badminton and hasn’t even heard of Momota.

“Since I was in middle school, my life has been 100% badminton, so when I’m with a partner, I want to get away from that and just be Kento Momota, not a badminton player.

“I think I would be too careful if she (my partner) knew about badminton. Having said that, I am definitely open to try new experiences like getting married and raising children,” said the Japanese ace.

Momota retired from the game in April last year, after failing to reach the same heights which saw him dominate the men’s singles from 2018-2019.

Still only 30, Momota was at the peak of his career five years ago when he was involved in a car accident hours after winning the Malaysia Masters in 2020.

Despite a lengthy layoff, the southpaw never reached the same levels which saw him hold on to the world number one ranking for 121 weeks, and win 11 titles in 2019.

These days, Momota is a coach at the NTT East Japan club.

He still practices from Monday-Saturday, but doesn’t have to travel abroad for competitions anymore.

“I spend my free time relaxing at home, watching YouTube or Netflix, going to the sauna or shopping. I also eat what I want, but I make sure to go running every day,” he adds with a laugh.
