The fifth season of the Senheng Purple League is set to attract several world-class players, with new men's singles world no.1 Kento Momota being touted among them.
The 24-year-old, who became the first Japanese men to obtain the top spot when the rankings were announced on Thursday, could be following in the footsteps of fellow high ranking players Lee Chong Wei, Chou Tien-chen and Christinna Pedersen to play in the Malaysian professional badminton league.
During a launch event held on Wednesday, Purple League CEO Jack Koh kept mum on potential big-name participants but revealed they were among the top-ranking players in the world.
"There are a lot of hearsays [about the foreign stars], but I would rather keep it for the next press conference to reveal the superstars.
"There are definitely a few great names; some are among the top four in the world," he said.
The new season of the Purple League is set to commence on December 20.
Last season, Puchong United finished as the champions for the first time and took home RM520,000, while runners-up Kepong earned RM265,000.
