A visibly upset Misbun Sidek refuted the Badminton Association of Malaysia’s (BAM) statement that stated they mutually parted ways.
At a press conference on Monday, the former national shuttler claimed he never agreed to the immediate termination.

“I had never agreed to the mutual termination. I was just told of their decision and told not to report to work the next day. I am disappointed and upset to be treated this way,” said Misbun.
“I had gone to meet the task force committee for a post-mortem on the Asian Junior Championships (AJC), and I accepted the results were not good.
“But after the AJC, some of my singles shuttlers had done well at the Jaya Raya [Junior International Grand Prix] and one shuttler even won a title.
“I was optimistic of working with the players until the World Junior Championships [in September]. All the players who competed at the AJC were going to the world junior meet, and I had already identified the areas which needed improving. But they never did give me that option to continue.
“I was made the scapegoat for the AJC outing, but I am only in charge of the singles department. The doubles contingent also did not perform, so why am I the only one taking the blame?” he questioned.
The national body in a statement last week announced his exit following a dismal outing at the recent AJC that saw the contingent only make it as far as the quarter-finals.
In their statement, the BAM had also said that Misbun accepted the mutual termination, stating: “BAM today and Misbun Sidek have mutually agreed to part company after working together for the past six years.”
The 63-year-old had rejoined BAM in 2017 where he first served as national singles chief before being reassigned to serve in the junior setup.
