Malaysian shuttlers have given fans plenty to cheer about post-Paris Olympics, after two Malaysian doubles' pairs produced silverwares at the recent Japan & Korea Open.

Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin were the first to build on the bronze medal earned by their former team-mates Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik in Paris at the Japan Open.

Goh-Izzuddin turned on-fire to clinch the Super 750 men’s doubles title after they stunned the much fancied Kang Min-hyuk-Seo Seung-jae in the final to complete a fairytale victory.

A week later, the national shuttlers did even better after Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei and Pearly Tan-M.Thinaah reached the mixed and women’s doubles finals respectively.

Chen-Toh gave Malaysia a perfect 67th Independence Day present after coming a game down to beat their Chinese opponents 17-21, 21-13, 21-13.

It wasn’t meant to be a double triumph as Tan-Thinaah faltered in the final against home pair Jeong Na-eun-Kim Hye-Jeong in straight games.

Nonetheless, it was a terrific run by the world number nine pair who have done well after their fourth placed finish at the Paris Olympics.

“We shouldn’t be too hard on ourselves. We were a little fatigued after playing long matches this week, but credit goes to the South Koreans who played a great final. We will have a good rest after this and return stronger,” remarked Thinaah.

Goh-Izzuddin and Chen-Toh’s success means Malaysian shuttlers have now won seven titles on the World Tour this year.

Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai have won two mixed doubles titles at the Swiss Open and Malaysia Masters, while Lee delivered two silverwares at the Thailand and Australian Open.

Choong Hon Jian-Haikal Nazri claimed the Orleans Masters men’s doubles title, before Goh-Izzuddin's success in Yokohama.

Chen-Toh made it seven heaven on Sunday, and there will be plenty of interest in the upcoming competitions at the Hong Kong and China Open later this month.

While Goh-Izzuddin have now departed from the national association to become professionals with their new sponsor Victor, there is a sense of belief that they will continue to shine as a pair on the international stage.

The same can be said for Chen-Toh and Tan-Thinaah who will compete in upcoming competitions full of confidence.
