Malaysian shuttlers chase third consecutive title at Arctic Open

badminton-jr.jpg
The Malaysian contingent who are competing at the upcoming Arctic Open (Oct 7-12) will be confident of securing silverware based on an excellent track record in recent years.

This competition held annually in Finland has been upgraded to a Super 500 event since 2023, and with that new prestige came world class participation.

More importantly, the Malaysian shuttlers have returned with two titles since 2023.

Two years ago, Lee Zii Jia won the men’s singles crown when he beat Ng Tze Yong in an all-Malaysian final.

Last year, it was Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin’s turn to bag the men’s doubles title, while Pearly Tan-M.Thinaah also reached the women’s doubles final.

This year, defending champions Goh-Izzuddin are seeded second and they could go all the way to the final if they put together a consistent run, beginning with a win against a Scottish pair in the first round.

Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik are the top seeds in Finland, and they have a challenging opening round against Danish pair Daniel Lundgaard-Mads Vestergaard.

As for Tan-Thinaah, the Malaysians are seeded second.

If they stay consistent as they have been this whole year, the pair could face China’s Liu Sheng Shu-Tan Ning in a repeat of last year’s final.
