The men’s singles semi-finals at the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) will comprise of top national shuttlers after Ng Tze Yong, Aidil Sholeh, Jacky Kok and Leong Jun Hao all passed their tests in comfortable fashion.

Johor’s Ng, the highest-ranked and top-seeded shuttler here, made light work of Chia Jeng Hon 21-13, 21-12 to set-up a semis showdown against third seeded Aidil on Friday.

Ng can be considered an international rising star after defying all odds to win silver at the Commonwealth Games last month.

He was asked of the difference between playing at the Commonwealth Games and the SUKMA, to which he replied: “Of course there is a massive difference, as the Commonwealth comprises of top 10 players.

“But the SUKMA is also important to me, as it gives me the opportunity to represent my state. It will be a challenging match against Aidil tomorrow. We know each other’s game well having trained together daily,” said Ng.

Second seed Leong Jun Hao also came through the last four after a 21-12, 21-14 win over Tai Chuan Zhe.

The KL representative next contests the semis against Kok, who beat Shaqeem Eiman 21-17, 21-17.

The women’s singles saw K. Letshanaa stay in the hunt for gold after she dumped out second seeded Myisha Khairul 23-21, 21-13.

The Selangor shuttler next plays Tan Zhing Yi, while Siti Nurshuhaini and Amanda Yap do battle in the other tie.

The men’s doubles saw Chinese Taipei winner Tee Kai Wun sail into the next phase with partner Tan Kok Xian, where they play Muhammad Nuraidil-Muhammad Nurfirdaus next.

Tee is also on mixed doubles duty with Toh Ee Wei as top seeds, and they play Owen Ting-Wong Ling for a place in the final.
