The Malaysia Open will kick off the BWF World Tour for 2023 and 2024 that would witness a 31-event calendar for each season.

The full-swing calendar also marks the return of normalcy for the sport after two pandemic-stricken years.

Next year’s Malaysia Open, now elevated to a Super 1000 event, will take place from January 10-15.

Unlike this year, there will not be any back-to-back events, with the Malaysia Masters poised to preside from May 23-28.

The 2023 season will begin with the Asian leg, as the World Tour moves on to India, Indonesia and Thailand followed by the Teams Continental Championships (Asia & Europe).

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) secretary-general Thomas Lund said badminton fans could look forward to regular competitions from now on.

“More Super 1000, Super 750 and Super 500 World Tour tournaments enable us to commit to higher prize money, increased player opportunities, greater online and TV coverage that will contribute to a world-class product that we seek.

“We also feel we no longer require cluster tournaments previously introduced to negate the complexities of Covid-19 travel,” he said.

The race to Paris Olympic qualification will begin on May 1, with the Sudirman Cup offering the first ranking points for the 2024 Olympic spectacle.

The qualification will run until April 28 the following year, and the final list will be used to determine the initial list of qualifiers.

The 2024 Malaysia Open, meanwhile, will take place from Jan 9-14.
