Danish pair William Boe-Christian Kjaer described Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik as one of the best pairs in the world after they lost to the Malaysians at the Thailand Open final.

Boe-Kjaer are currently competing in the Malaysia Masters and have made the main draw after they beat Malaysian pair Chia Weijie-Lwi Sheng Hao 21-9, 21-16 in the men’s doubles qualifiers on Tuesday.

The world number 50 Danes rose to the limelight last week after they stunned several higher ranked pairs to reach the Thailand Open final against Chia-Soh.

They even took a game from the eventual champions, before losing 22-20, 17-21, 12-21.

Despite the loss, they cherished that match.

“Aaron-Wooi Yik were really good, they are one of the best pairs in the world. The final atmosphere was great too with the fans cheering for us, we really enjoyed it,” the pair told Stadium Astro.

Boe-Kjaer, 22 and 20 respectively, are only playing on the World Tour this year.

They got their breakthrough in Bangkok having lost in the first round of all their previous tournaments.

But this Danish pair are ones to watch out for, having trained for sometime with their national team along with world top pair Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen.

“It’s all about gaining confidence for us. We train daily with Kim-Anders who are the world number one pair. Playing at the World Tour means we have to play a lot of matches to improve and get used to the level of speed,” they said.

Boe-Kjaer picked up the sport as soon as they could pick up a racquet and hit the shuttle.

It helps that badminton runs in their blood too.

Boe is the nephew of 2012 Olympic silver medalist and former world number one Mathias Boe, who is now married to Indian celebrity Tapasee Pannu.

Kjaer’s uncle is Kasper Henriksen, who is also a former Danish international who reached a career high rank of 20.

Both Boe-Kjaer are great friends off the court, as they are compatible on it.

“We are great friends off the court and it helps our communication a great deal. We can be hard on each other in a good way to push each other.”

Boe-Kjaer jumped 25 spots on the world rankings after reaching the Thailand Open final.

Here at the Axiata Arena, they are looking to make a similar impact.
