Malaysia created history at the Thailand Open after both Pearly Tan-M.Thinaah and Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik won the men’s doubles and women’s doubles titles in Bangkok on Sunday.

Both the national pair’s success meant this is the first time in the World Tour era that Malaysia won two titles at a Super 500 level event.

The last time Malaysia won in two events of a prestigious tournament, it was way back in 2014 when Lee Chong Wei and Goh V Shem-Lim Kim Wah achieved it on home ground at the Malaysia Open.

But history was about to be created through this current generation of shuttlers at the Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok on Sunday.

First it was Tan-Thinaah, who turned in a scintillating performance to overcome Jeong Na-eun-Lee Yeon-woo 21-16, 21-17.

The top seeds lived up to their billing by dominating their opponents in the 58-minute contest, and there was never any doubt they would reign supreme in this contest.

The Malaysians went on attack mode from the start and quickly unsettled their opponents, who could not match Tan-Thinaah’s intensity in both games.

Right after Tan-Thinaah won their first title of the year, Chia-Soh followed it up with their second silverware of 2025.

The Asian champions could not achieve victory in straightforward fashion, as their Danish opponents William Boe-Christian Kjaer stunned them by winning the first game.

But Chia-Soh’s class told, as they came from behind to win the next two games for the 20-22, 21-17, 21-12 victory and complete a great outing.

This was also the world number five’s first Super 500 title win of their respective careers.

Both the national pair’s victories also sets things up nicely ahead of the upcoming Malaysia Masters this week, where Tan-Thinaah and Chia-Soh are guaranteed raucous reception.
