Liu Ying writes herself into Malaysia Book of Records
Goh Liu Ying recently wrote her name into the Malaysia Book of Records for her achievement at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

The former national mixed doubles shuttler received the recognition as Malaysia’s first female Olympic badminton medalist, when she and Chan Peng Soon returned home with a silver medal from that Olympics.

“From chasing shuttlecocks on court to receiving a national honour. Thank you, Malaysia Book of Records for this award. May this inspire the next generation to believe in their power. Olympic dreams do come true,” she said.

In that 2016 Olympic final, Goh-Chan lost in straight games against Indonesian pair Tontowi Ahmad-Liliyana Natsir, but the pair’s achievement to reach the final in itself was a commendable feat.

Goh herself admitted that reaching that Rio final felt like a huge dream, especially after she underwent surgeries on both her knees two years prior to that.

Last year, national women’s pair Pearly Tan-M.Thinaah also came close to an Olympic medal at the Paris Olympics, but had to settle for fourth place after losing in their bronze medal match.
