Malaysian mixed doubles shuttler Goh Liu Ying announced she will hang up her racquet after the conclusion of the Malaysia Open in January next year.

“The Malaysia Open next year will be my last tournament,” she was quoted saying by New Straits Times, hinting she may even have a new partner for the Super 1000 marquee event next year.

Ever since going separate ways with long-term partner Chan Peng Soon last year, Goh struggled with form and chemistry with three different partners.

She first teamed up with Ong Yew Sin, but that partnership was short-lived as the latter chose to focus on his men’s doubles career.

The 33-year-old then partnered Soong Joo Ven without any impact, and most recently teamed up with Low Juan Shen at the Vietnam Open.

Among Goh’s career highlights reels was at the 2016 Rio Olympics, where she and Chan won silver.

Meanwhile, Chan also did not fare any better since returning to the national body with different partners, and his days as an elite shuttler could also be numbered.
