Cheah Liek Hou carved out another slice of history for himself after claiming a record 12th Para-Badminton World Championships title on Sunday by beating Dheva Anrimushti in straight games.

Cheah picked up his 12th world crown 17 years after winning his first world title in 2005.

The serial world champion now won seven men’s singles titles and five men’s doubles successes.

With this triumph, the reigning Tokyo Paralympics gold medalist now had 14 consecutive titles since 2019 in the men’s singles SU5 event.

Besides this, he was also a four-time Asian Para-Games gold medalist and a three-time Asean Games gold medal champion.

Cheah was however denied a 13th world title as Dheva extracted revenge in the men’s doubles SU5 category.

Dheva-Hafizh Brilliansyah Prawiranegara beat Cheah and partner Faris Ahmad Nazri 21-13, 21-12.

Malaysia were also denied a title in the men’s doubles WH1-WH2 category final after Muhammad Ikhwan Ramli-Noor Azwan Noorlan lost 11-21, 15-21 to Germany’s Rick Cornell Hellmann-Thomas Wandschneider.
