Paris Paralympic gold medalist Cheah Liek Hou will be treated to his favourite meal by his wife Dewi Febriana Tan after she witnessed her husband clinching his second gold medal on Monday.

Cheah beat his Indonesian opponent Suryo Nugroho 21-13, 21-15 to secure the para-badminton Standing Upper 5 (SU5) gold in a comfortable final victory.

Celebrating along with millions of Malaysians back home was his wife Dewi, who has a special meal in store for her husband.

“I plan to greet him at the airport and after that treat him to his favourite meal of chicken and fish. Liek Hou doesn’t eat much rice, he prefers meat. I hope he will continue to be in great shape to win another medal in Los Angeles,” she said.

As for Cheah, he does not have any plans of quitting the sport anytime soon, and has set his sights to compete on the Asian stage in two years.

“I will definitely keep on playing and will next focus on the Asian Para Games in Japan in 2026,” said the 36-year-old.

Cheah, a nine-time SU5 world singles champion, has also promised to give a part of his RM1,000,000 winnings back to some form of social welfare after the Malaysian won his second gold medal in Paris on Monday.

“I want to give back to society, some form of social welfare. I did this when I won in Tokyo three years ago. I don’t believe this victory is just mine alone, which is why I aim to give back,” he added.
Cheah also inspired a movie titled ‘Gold’ based on his badminton journey that was released in July.

The movie will be rescreened at selected Golden Screen Cinemas starting on Sept 5.

‘Gold’ tells the life story of Cheah being born with a nerve disorder known as Erb’s Palsy and his journey of making a name for himself on the world stage.
