Letshaana captures National Championships women's singles crown
K. Letshaana solidified her status as the top shuttler in the national set-up after she captured the National Championships women’s singles title with a pulsating three-game victory over Wong Ching Ling.
Letshaana needed 66 minutes to overcome her team-mate 16-21, 21-17, 21-19 to win her second title of the year, following up on her Uganda International success last February.
“This is my first National Championships title, so I’m delighted to have won it.

“I was happy to have fought hard to win as well, because Ching Ling is a fierce competitor and gave her best. It was a really close match till the end,” said Letshaana, who also came through a stern test against Siti Nurshuhaini on Saturday to reach the final.
In doing so, the world number 68 joins the likes of Wong Mew Choo, Goh Jin Wei and M. Thinaah to have carved their names as winners.
In the men’s singles, Leong Jun Hao lived up to his top billing seed when he easily overcame Shaqeem Eiman 21-16, 21-13 in straight games.
Vivian Hoo-Lim Chiew Sien also took the women’s doubles title in comfortable fashion when they brushed aside Vanessa Ng-Cheng Su Hui 21-13, 21-7.
Yap Roy King, meanwhile, emerged the biggest winner of this national event when he took home both the men’s and mixed doubles title.
His first title came in the mixed doubles with Siow Zi Xuan, with the top seeds needing 38 minutes to beat Choong Hon Jian-Go Pei Kee 21-19, 21-18 in Sunday’s opening final.
Yap later teamed up with Wan Junaidi Arif to win the men’s doubles title after the pair overcame Low Hang Yee-Ng Eng Cheong 21-17, 21-12.
